The passiveness and emotional make up of the Cups can sometimes lead to apathy and that is what we see here. This person, sitting beneath the tree ignores everything around him. He fails to see the offered cup which, resembling the Ace, suggests possibilities for happiness.

He is totally self absorbed, everything revolves round him.

In readings this can indicate you are too wrapped up in your own world, that you are stuck emotionally. Take the proffered cup and try to see beyond yourself.

Reversed, the card takes us out of ourselves so we can see new ideas and possibilities. The reversed card shows enthusiasm.
